The first six levels of planet #4 focus on words with long vowels and a silent -e at the end. Although students are now familiar with initial and final consonant clusters after completing the levels making up the previous two planets, 52 of the 60 words in these levels follow a simple CVC + silent e pattern.

If you haven't already done so, these levels are also a great chance to talk with your students about the soft 'c' sound. Words like face (level 4-1), race (4-2), place (4-2), and ice (4-6) are great examples of how the letter 'c' takes on a soft sound in this long vowel/silent -e pattern.

There is no level focusing on using a long 'e' with a silent -e at the end because so few of the high frequency words in English follow that pattern (two that do are these and here, and those words are included in levels 4-6 and 8-5).

By now, your students' awards page should be lighting up with completed levels and earned badges. As they complete the entire first row of planets and stars on the awards page, it might be a good time to celebrate your students' progress with them while also setting more goals for the future. (You can also remind them, as they examine the awards page, that stars don't really orbit around planets in real life!)
