Level 9-2

-ing verbs: silent -e drops

dancing, driving, making, loving, caring, hoping, riding, smiling, saving, serving

In this level, we take verbs that end with a silent e and add an -ing ending to them. The key to success here is for students to understand that the silent e is removed before the -ing ending is added. So drive becomes driving, not driveing.

Verbs that end with ee (as in see) or with a non-silent e (be) do not drop an e before the -ing ending is added. So see becomes seeing and be becomes being -- simply adding the -ing ending as you would with a typical verb.
